Trail Overview
Sherman Pass 4x4 Trail
Check out the side roads available to green-sticker ATVs on the west end of this fun trail. The east end offers more single track, dirt biking trails. There are campsites along the way and in Bonita Meadows. If you're visiting after the spring runoff, you'll see some remarkable wildflowers.
The western half of this trail was destroyed by the huge McNally Fire in the summer of 2002. For the first edition of this book, we drove the route with the Bakersfield Trailblazers the following year along with a ranger from the Sequoia National Forest. They assessed damage and repaired what they could. The Trailblazers and Ridgecrest Gear Grinders have continued to maintain the trail since then. As a result of improvements, we have upgraded the trail’s rating from difficult to moderate.
Getting There
From Kernville, head north about 20 miles on scenic Sierra Way, Highway 99. Turn right on paved Sherman Pass Road. Go east another 8.2 miles to well-marked Sherman Pass 4x4 Trail on left.
