Trail Overview
Orderville Canyon
This nice, mellow drive is well marked and offers some great camping near Jacob Lake. Its located in the northernmost leg of the Great Western Trail, and takes you through Orderville Canyon to the Buckskin Mountains. Unlicensed vehicles are allowed.
History
In 1863, cattle and sheep found their way to this area, thanks to the efforts of Mormon settlers expanding their lands. Orderville Canyon was a prime area for grazing. It was named after the Orderville United Order, a Mormon Church cooperative established around 1880. The area has been sold and bought several times since then. At one time the area had a sawmill in operation.
