Public lands comprise 1,729 square miles (74%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Baggs, and Dixon. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 6,100 feet to a high of 10,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 2,566 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 3 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Medicine Bow National Forest, Routt National Forest, Huston Park Wilderness. Additionally, 8 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
