Area 2 regulates hunting opportunities for sage grouse in Wyoming and covers 21,988 square miles. Public lands comprise 3,666 square miles (17%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Cheyenne, Casper, and Bosler. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 3,200 feet to a high of 11,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 37,570 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 24 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Black Hills National Forest, Medicine Bow National Forest, Roosevelt National Forest, Routt National Forest, Platte River Wilderness, Savage Run Wilderness. Additionally, 423 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
