Area 19 regulates hunting opportunities for mountain lion in Wyoming and covers 4,794 square miles. Public lands comprise 3,647 square miles (77%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Pahaska. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 3,700 feet to a high of 13,000 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 16,438 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 17 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Shoshone National Forest, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, North Absaroka Wilderness, Teton Wilderness, Washakie Wilderness. Additionally, 43 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
