Wildfires have burned nearly 15,967 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 17 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Custer National Forest, Gallatin National Forest, Shoshone National Forest, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, North Absaroka Wilderness, Teton Wilderness, Washakie Wilderness. Additionally, 18 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
