Area 19 regulates hunting opportunities for black bear in Wyoming and covers 3,237 square miles. Public lands comprise 2,689 square miles (84%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Fort Washakie, and Big Sandy. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 5,700 feet to a high of 13,600 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 89 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 13 campgrounds, and 26 public fishing access sites. There are 7 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Bridger National Forest, Shoshone National Forest, Teton National Forest, Bridger Wilderness, Fitzpatrick Wilderness, Gros Ventre Wilderness, Popo Agie Wilderness. Additionally, 10 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
