Area 21 regulates hunting opportunities for bighorn sheep in Wyoming and covers 1,073 square miles. Public lands comprise 746 square miles (70%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Saratoga, Encampment, and Riverside. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 6,700 feet to a high of 10,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 7,539 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 7 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Medicine Bow National Forest, Routt National Forest, Encampment River Wilderness, Huston Park Wilderness. Additionally, 3 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
