The Central Mtns Nebo-West Face unit regulates hunting opportunities for cougar in Utah and covers 142 square miles. Public lands comprise 105 square miles (74%) of the total land covered by this wildlife management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Payson, Santaquin, and Salem. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 4,800 feet to a high of 11,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 10 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 3 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Uinta National Forest, Mount Nebo Wilderness.
