Unit H3A regulates hunting opportunities for elk in South Dakota and covers 839 square miles. Public lands comprise 545 square miles (65%) of the total land covered by this hunt unit. The greater region is best serviced by Angostura Reservoir. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 3,300 feet to a high of 6,200 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 1,598 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife.
