Unit BD2 regulates hunting opportunities for deer in South Dakota and covers 1,302 square miles. Public lands comprise 1,166 square miles (90%) of the total land covered by this hunt unit. The greater region is best serviced by Cold Brook Reservoir, and Rochford. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 3,600 feet to a high of 7,100 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 40 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 38 campgrounds, and 7 public fishing access sites. There are 32 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested areas: Black Hills National Forest.
