The 19 MCKENZIE unit, wildlife management unit regulates hunting opportunities for wildlife in Oregon and covers 2,646 square miles. Public lands comprise 1,647 square miles (63%) of the total land covered by this wildlife management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Jasper. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 300 feet to a high of 9,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 51 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 75 campgrounds, and 2 public fishing access sites. There are 49 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Deschutes National Forest, Willamette National Forest, Menagerie Wilderness, Mount Washington Wilderness, Three Sisters Wilderness, Waldo Lake Wilderness.
