Unit 6A regulates hunting opportunities for big game in New Mexico and covers 1,322 square miles. Public lands comprise 1,205 square miles (92%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Los Alamos. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 5,100 feet to a high of 11,500 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 324 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 21 campgrounds, and 7 public fishing access sites. There are 7 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Santa Fe National Forest, San Pedro Parks Wilderness.
