Unit 16E regulates hunting opportunities for big game in New Mexico and covers 960 square miles. Public lands comprise 293 square miles (31%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by National Radio Astronomy Obs, and Old Horse Springs. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 6,300 feet to a high of 9,600 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 631 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This unit is a gateway to these forested areas: Gila National Forest. Additionally, 1 site is open to the public for access to managed private lands.
