Unit 14 regulates hunting opportunities for big game in New Mexico and covers 1,657 square miles. Public lands comprise 524 square miles (32%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Pajarito. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 4,800 feet to a high of 10,000 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 17,919 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. There are 56 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Cibola National Forest, Manzano Mountain Wilderness, Sandia Mountain Wilderness. Additionally, 2 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
