District 250 regulates hunting opportunities for wolf in Montana and covers 2,958 square miles. Public lands comprise 2,194 square miles (75%) of the total land covered by this hunt district. The greater region is best serviced by Missoula, and Grantsdale. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 3,000 feet to a high of 10,000 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 10,104 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 18 campgrounds, and 30 public fishing access sites. There are 19 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Beaverhead National Forest, Bitterroot National Forest, Clearwater National Forest, Deerlodge National Forest, Lolo National Forest, Salmon National Forest, Anaconda Pintler Wilderness, Blue Joint Wilderness Study Area, Sapphire Wilderness Study Area, Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, Welcome Creek Wilderness. Additionally, 20 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
