The East of the Continental Divide district regulates hunting opportunities for wildlife in Montana and covers 120,744 square miles. Public lands comprise 38,814 square miles (33%) of the total land covered by this hunt district. The greater region is best serviced by Billings, Great Falls, and Butte. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 1,900 feet to a high of 13,000 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 17,953 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 229 campgrounds, and 258 public fishing access sites.
