District 331 regulates hunting opportunities for moose in Montana and covers 1,181 square miles. Public lands comprise 473 square miles (41%) of the total land covered by this hunt district. The greater region is best serviced by Cameron. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 4,700 feet to a high of 10,400 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 629 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 5 campgrounds, and 9 public fishing access sites. This district is a gateway to these forested and wilderness areas: Beaverhead National Forest Axolotl Lakes Wilderness Study Area, East Fork Blacktail Deer Creek Wilderness Study Area, Ruby Mountains Wilderness Study Area. Additionally, 15 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
