District 340 regulates hunting opportunities for bighorn sheep in Montana and covers 1,142 square miles. Public lands comprise 614 square miles (54%) of the total land covered by this hunt district. The greater region is best serviced by Butte, Melrose, and Ramsay. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 4,400 feet to a high of 11,000 feet above sea level. This area contains 17 campgrounds, and 10 public fishing access sites. There are 5 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Beaverhead National Forest, Deerlodge National Forest, Humbug Spires Wilderness Study Area, West Pioneer Mountains Wilderness Study Area. Additionally, 17 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
