The Forest zone regulates hunting opportunities for wildlife in Minnesota and covers 38,080 square miles. Public lands comprise 11,055 square miles (30%) of the total land covered by this hunt area. The greater region is best serviced by Duluth. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 300 feet to a high of 2,200 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 1,658 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 272 campgrounds, and 7 public fishing access sites. There are 112 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Chippewa National Forest, Superior National Forest, Agassiz Wilderness, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Tamarac Wilderness.
