Unit 18 regulates hunting opportunities for antelope in Kansas and covers 4,532 square miles. Public lands comprise 201 square miles (5%) of the total land covered by this wildlife management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Liberal, Ulysses, and Hugoton. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 2,000 feet to a high of 3,700 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 702 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 3 campgrounds, and 5 public fishing access sites. Additionally, 366 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
