Unit 52 regulates hunting opportunities for wildlife in Idaho and covers 822 square miles. Public lands comprise 525 square miles (64%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Gooding, Magic City, and Picabo. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 3,700 feet to a high of 6,500 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 15 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 6 campgrounds, and 2 public fishing access sites. There are 4 trailheads that provide public gateways to these wilderness areas: Black Butte Wilderness Study Area, Lava Wilderness Study Area, Shoshone Wilderness Study Area. Additionally, 1 site is open to the public for access to managed private lands.
