Area 4A regulates hunting opportunities for moose in Idaho and covers 292 square miles. Public lands comprise 278 square miles (96%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Sandpoint, Bayview, and Ponderay. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 2,200 feet to a high of 6,800 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 12 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area is a gateway to these forested areas: Coeur d'Alene National Forest, Kaniksu National Forest.
