Area 1-1X regulates hunting opportunities for deer in Idaho and covers 2,476 square miles. Public lands comprise 1,510 square miles (61%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Sandpoint, and Bonners Ferry. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 1,800 feet to a high of 7,600 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 25 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This area contains 18 campgrounds, and 5 public fishing access sites. There are 26 trailheads that provide public gateways to these forested and wilderness areas: Kaniksu National Forest, Kootenai National Forest, Salmo-Priest Wilderness. Additionally, 4 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
