Unit S64 regulates hunting opportunities for bighorn sheep in Colorado and covers 922 square miles. Public lands comprise 568 square miles (62%) of the total land covered by this game management unit. The greater region is best serviced by Dolores, Dove Creek, and Egnar. The elevation of the region ranges from a low of 5,400 feet to a high of 7,400 feet above sea level. Wildfires have burned nearly 176 acres here in the last two years, providing opportunities for new vegetation and attracting a variety of wildlife. This unit is a gateway to these forested and wilderness areas: San Juan National Forest McKenna Peak Wilderness Study Area. Additionally, 12 sites are open to the public for access to managed private lands.
