2019 Year in Review

We are closing out an exciting year here at onX, and reflecting upon 2019 serves to encourage us going forward and remind us of our obligation to provide onX Hunt users with the best tool available. We’ve assembled a list of this year’s highlights below, including everything from our favorite new product features to the best of the onX Blog. Join us in looking back on the past twelve months and looking forward to the year ahead.

onX 2019 Year in Review - New Features

Photo Waypoints – onX Hunt’s Waypoints are an invaluable tool for many reasons, but we made them even better by enabling the addition of photos. Adding a photo is easy and the uses are endless.

Sharing – An outdoor experience is always better when shared with family or friends, and that drove us to develop the ability to share all Map Markups with a few quick taps on your screen. Send a Waypoint to let your family know where you’ll be, or share a track with a buddy so he can find that treestand at the back of the property.

Updated Wind & Weather – We partnered with Weather Underground to bring nearly 10 times more weather stations to onX Hunt. These new weather reports offer the more innovative forecast models available and cross-verify output with all Weather Underground’s localized data points.

onX and TRCP Landlocked State Lands Report – Following 2018’s collaboration with TRCP in which we identified 9.52 million acres of landlocked federal land across the West, 2019’s project located an additional 6.35 million acres of similarly landlocked state lands.

The onX Story– 2019 marks onX’s 10th anniversary, and we’ve come a long way from a small team chasing an idea in Missoula, Montana. We sat down with onX Founder Eric Siegfried to talk about the founding of the company and what the future holds for onX.

A Conversation with George Bettas – As a former Executive Director of the Boone and Crockett Club, past president of the Mule Deer Foundation and the founder of the Montana Hunter Advancement Program’s Master Hunter Course, George is one of the most interesting folks we know. We sat down for a wide-ranging conversation that covered everything from George’s childhood in Washington to the future of our sport.

onX 2019 Year in Review - Video Series

E-Scouting Elk with Randy Newberg – In 2018, we worked with Randy to produce the Complete Guide to E-Scouting for Elk. This time around, Randy came back to produce a new series that shows how to put everything into practice in a real-world scenario.

Sam Soholt’s Public Lands Bus Tour – Over the past few years, Sam Soholt’s Public Lands Bus became immediately recognizable as a symbol of the movement to protect and conserve our public lands. In support of these efforts, we partnered with Sam to produce a series of videos that tell this story—that our public lands matter and are worth protecting.

Mapping Whitetails with The Hunting Public – The crew at The Hunting Public finds success year after year by continually researching new areas and strategies to find where whitetails seek refuge and elude pressure. In the second season of The Hunting Public’s Mapping Whitetails series, we took a closer look at four specific habitats and the tactics The Hunting Public uses to find success.

onX 2019 Year in Review - Tailgate Tales

Clay B. – “I live in Wisconsin. I used onX Hunt to find and scout aerial photos of public land in Nebraska for a solo DIY hunt. Took my first archery pronghorn in the first four hours of my hunt.”

Engage and Conserve Outdoors – “Last September, we went west after elk. We probably used onX Hunt more than any other tool while we were out there. Our first DIY archery elk hunt in a unit with less than 16% success yielded a bull and memories we could never replace. The mapping software of onX Hunt helped us so much.”

Matt W. – “Used the App to find a small piece of state land last week. Helped my wife get her first general season buck when nearly everyone else got skunked.”
