Waving Willie Loop

This loop is the longest in Allamuchy State Park and combines three trails. The loop starts at the southern trailhead of the Sussex Branch trail. Walk north a short distance until there is signage for the Waterloo Trail (white markers) on the left. Take the Waterloo Trail for 3 miles. At this point the Waterloo trail makes a sharp left and the Waving Willie (green markers) trail starts directly straight ahead.At the 4.75 mile mark, there is a social trail on the right that leads to the only view point on this loop hike. The trail rejoins the Waving Willie trail shortly after that. After 1.25 miles, the Waving Willie trail ends at the Sussex Branch trail. Turn right and follow the Sussex Branch for 3 miles back to the trailhead. Black Bears are common in this area so be familiar with how to deal with an encounter.Note here, after rain and for some time after that, the Sussex Branch trail floods and is inpassable. To avoid this (when flooded), go north on the Sussex Branch trail until you can access Route 206 and walk south along the shoulder until passing the flooded area and regaining the trail.
