Long Ridge Open Space Preserve is open from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.
Path Type
Point to Point
The LR 14 Gate Trail descends from the Skyline to the Sea Trail into a little valley in Long Ridge Preserve. The trail begins at the LR 14 Gate close to Highway 9. There is a parking lot west of the trailhead where you can park and then follow the Skyline to the Sea Trail back to the trailhead.
The trail drops steeply down into the preserve on a wide dirt and grass trail. Following the preserve boundary for about 0.2 miles before breaking to the right and moving deeper into the preserve. The trail drops steeply, moving in and out of the woods. There are oak trees all around.
After about half a mile of descent, the trail levels out and ends in a pine tree grove. From here, you have to turn around and work your way back up to the trailhead. This is a good hike if you are looking for solitude and a climb at the end of your hike.
