Description
This trail starts at the Broken Top Trailhead on Forest Road 4600-380. It's past the Todd Lake Trailhead and is on a very rough road recommended for high clearance/4WD vehicles. There is a parking lot and pit toilet at the trail beginning. The trail starts uphill and generally follows a creek that you'll cross twice. It is the outflow of an unnamed lake you'll eventually hike next to. In late July this year we still had to cross patches of snow and cross the creek. Wildflowers were in spectacular bloom where the snow had previously been. We saw bright red paintbrush, aster, seep monkeyflower, and other types of wildflowers. You'll continue up until you come to an unnamed lake. This green lake in the crater still had ice on it. Continue around the lake on the trail and up to a ridge and viewpoint. This view is amazing, and you are able to see Three Sisters, Washington, Jefferson and Hood. It's best to do this very early in the days since it gets crowded and busy starting late morning through afternoon.
