There and Back
This wooded trail climbs up Green Lake canyon through one of the most colorful Aspen groves in the fall found in the Eastern Sierra. Climbing past the grove hikers and backers discover a series of lakes perfect for camping or fishing. Green Creek Trail, in the Toiyabe National Forest, is a relatively short and beautiful hike to Green Lake and further on to East Lake. Both lakes are large and surrounded by dramatic peaks. The moderate hike to East Lake is about 8 miles round trip and gains about 1,400 feet in elevation. The trail is a mix of decomposed granite and dirt trail with a combination of granite steps, small creek crossings. Many backpackers continue on past East lake onto Summit Lake at the border of Yosemite National Park and then down into Virginia Lake Canyon as a loop trip.
