Kirby Park is a small watercraft launch site 4.5 miles inland on the Elkhorn Slough. This park consists of a parking lot, a boat launch with a dock, and a 1-mile there-and-back ADA-accessible trail. Although this is a small area with the only amenity being a portable toilet, it offers some of the best opportunities to see wildlife up close from shore, especially otters. The Elkhorn Slough is a kayaking hotspot for nature lovers and waterfowl hunters who come here to launch. This straight half-mile trail follows the shoreline and terminates at the end of a wooden boardwalk. Along the way you will find wooden benches for resting as you enjoy the view of the birds feeding in the mudflats. Informational diagrams and a map of the slough can be found here as well. The trail is level and paved, which allows you to focus your attention on the scenery around you. If you walk quietly, you may be able to approach sunbathing lizards or mud crabs just off the path. This clean trail is maintained by the Elkhorn Slough Foundation.
