Kenyon DeVore Trail #11W13

The trail starts along the Mt. Wilson Road where the road splits into a one-way loop. Park in the turnouts on the loop road just before it rejoins the two-way road. The trail descends through an oak and bigcone spruce forest and meets a junction with the Rim Trail on the right. The trail descends steeply though an open forest and drops into a canyon with a seasonal spring. Maple trees turn bright orange and yellow along the canyon bottom in fall. It continues to follow along the canyon above the stream, with occasional crossings, finally meeting with the Gabrielino Trail at an unsigned junction. An extension of the trail joins with the Gabrielino Trail a few hundred yards east then bears left and descends down to the Rincon-Red Box Road along the West Fork of the San Gabriel River. This trail can be used to make various loop hikes on the north side of Mt. Wilson. One popular route is to descend on Kenyan Devore Trail then take the Gabrielino Trail (NRT) to Devore Trail Camp and up to Newcomb Pass where the Rim Trail can be used to complete the loop back to the top of the mountain. This trail was formerly called "Rattlesnake Trail" and that naming may appear on older maps.
