Description
To start note that the Trestle trailhead does not connect to the parking area but is in fact on the opposite side of the bridge right near the parking area. You'll hike briefly on the Trestle trail before forking to the left to continue up along the Sugarloaf trail. Sugarloaf trail is well maintained and easy to follow but only occasionally marked by yellow blazes. Shortly after starting along the Sugarloaf trail you'll cross a snowmobile trail. Continuing onward it'll be mostly flat for the first quarter mile or so. You'll then pass through a cool small boulder field and continuing on you'll hit one of the steeper parts of this trail around 0.5 miles from the trailhead. At 0.75 from the Sugarloaf trailhead you'll hit a fork to either North or Middle Sugarloaf mountains. If you have time explore both! The spur to North sugarloaf is about 0.8 miles round trip and is mapped separately on Hiking Project. Continuing on the Sugarloaf trail takes you the remainder of the way up to the summit of Middle Sugarloaf. Round trip to the summit of Middle Sugarloaf from the previously mentioned fork is about 1 mile. You'll come across two major steeper sections but generally it's not a challenging trip to the summit of Middle Sugarloaf. At the summit walk around on the exposed rocks where you can get expansive views in nearly all directions. Look towards the east for an awesome view of Mount Washington.
