Loop
From the Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead, follow the well-maintained Cottonwood Lakes Trail as it gradually climbs through forests and meadows. After a few miles, take a short detour to Cirque Lake, a secluded alpine lake tucked beneath towering granite cliffs.Rejoining the main trail, continue toward New Army Pass, a steep but well-graded ascent with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Descend into the Rock Creek drainage, then connect with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), heading south along rolling ridgelines with expansive vistas. After crossing Cottonwood Pass, descend toward Horseshoe Meadows, where the route reconnects with the Cottonwood Lakes Trail to complete the loop.
