Description
If you're starting from Green Pond Road, you can park on the ample shoulder or south on Green Pond at Hudsonia Field and hike up the road. You enter the trail at the gate erected by the electric company. The gate states "No Trespassing" however the trail begins just beyond. Follow the path up the field until you notice blazes in the shape of iron anvils. Cross the wood plank bridge over the stream and then the trail will tuck into the woods where you'll stay for the remainder of the hike. The singletrack climbs from there with great bench cuts and nice trail variation. The trail ends at a 6-8 foot wide carriage trail called the Oreland W&N Railroad Grade. There are plenty of fun easter eggs along the way like an old fridge marked with "Beer + Pizza -->", an old lawnmower, an old television with the Oreland Trail logo, old shovels, and old porcelain pottery. This trail has clearly been been a labor of love and it shows. The trail is maintained by the trail owner who is a single individual who designed the trail initially for mountain biking. Treat the trail with respect and do your part cleaning up. If there is a down branch, do your part by moving it out of the way.
