Description
This passage of the AZT begins at the Canelo Pass Trailhead and heads west toward the town of Patagonia. This section does not feel as remote as the first two, however, it is still not traveled often. The start of this passage is the final ascent over a 5,600' saddle. The Meadow Valley stretches below, showing the way down and west. The trail eventually heads through Redrock Canyon, where it passes the Down Under Tank and the Cott Tank Environmental Exclosure, before coming to the Red Bank Well. At this point, the trail turns north and passes close to Gate Spring, Red Rock Road (4WD) in Lampshire Canyon, and then bends back to the west through hills interspersed with oak and manzanita. The final section of this passage drops down to the trailhead on Harshaw Road (FR 58), just north of the Spirit Tree Inn. The route winds into town along Harshaw Road for about 3 miles, ending at the Post Office on the right in Patagonia.
