Who doesn't love exploring lava tubes! This is a great place for kids and adults! There are four main lava tube entrances along this trail. The first lava tube has the most opportunity for exploring. Bring a flashlight and clothes you don't mind getting dusty. From the parking area you will be hiking on lava rock and dirt the entire way. The first lava tube is about 0.40 mile from the parking lot and it is on your right side. This trail is beautiful and you will have many chances to see cactus, desert flowers, and even some small birds and other wildlife. There are some trail signs with information on them too along the way. The first lava tube has two entrances and they are right next to each other and connect down below. The first one has a large cool chamber and it drops down a good distance. It isn't a serious climbing experience, but there are some areas where you need to pay attention and use both hands to get down. These are fun areas for kids to explore! Just bring a flashlight! This lava tube is the biggest and best one! The large chamber narrows down to a small tunnel at the end. The second lava tube is about 0.57 mile from the parking area. This one only goes a short distance. The third lava tube also had a very large entrance, but didn't go in too far either. The trail continues around in a giant loop, but we only wanted to see the main lava tubes, so we came back on the same trail. I love seeing caves, mines, and lava tubes! There is something about being in the hot desert and then going into a lava tube and the temperature is about 40 degrees cooler! This is a fun adventure for everyone and is a must see in Snow Canyon State Park.
