Description
The trail loops through the ruins of an ancient Puebloan community laid out on a stony ridge with commanding views of the surrounding valley and mountain ranges. The paved path provides access to over 100 rooms making up the village. Due to the excellent condition of the path, it is easy for visitors to take a step back in time. Make a quick stop in the museum before setting out, and you'll be able to imagine the pueblo furnished with the beautiful textiles and pots that are the signature of the Sinagua people. This is an archaeological site and should be treated as a museum. Please leave all artifacts in place and do not sit on walls or cause any damage to the site, so that it may be preserved for its cultural and scientific importance.
History & Background
The pueblo was built by the Sinagua people between the 12th and 15th century. The extensive and well-preserved ruins at Tuzigoot incorporated trap door type openings in the roofs, and used ladders to enter each room.
