Description
The Farmers Highline Canal Trail is an extensive trail running East / West through multiple cities on the Colorado Front Range. The various parks along this trail act as hubs offering a number of connecting trails that can provide a change in view if any section of this trail becomes routine. The trail has many sections offering lots of tree coverage and is a mix of Concrete and Asphalt. The route is mostly flat, but there will be a few rolling portions to keep you from getting too comfortable. Mornings generally offer the best shade as many sections have the trees to the east and open views to the west.
History & Background
The Farmers' High Line Canal was originally built in the 1860s by the Arapahoe Ditch Company from Clear Creek to Van Bibber Creek in what is now Arvada. The remaining segments to the east were built in subsequent years by the Golden City and Arapahoe Ditch Company. It is one of the Front Range's signature trails winding from near Standley Lake east to Northglenn's EB Raines Park (10.3 mi/16.5 km) and beyond into Thornton.
