Bechler Falls is one of my favorite trails in all of Yellowstone. It is an extremely pleasant and peaceful walk full of small falls and cascades. The area sees far less traffic than other parts of the park because it is only accessible via dirt road and usually not before June. The area gets a LOT of mosquitoes. Bug spray is a must. The bugs die down a bit by late August. The trailhead is located at the Cave Falls parking lot. From the parking lot you will see a small sign that simply says trailhead. The trail follows the Fall River (Also called the Falls River) for the first mile or so. This river is amazing. I love it. There are nice cascades everywhere. You will soon reach the confluence of the Bechler and Fall Rivers. I really loved this spot. It's a great place for lunch with the wide and shallow rivers. The trail then follows the Bechler River and enters the forest for a bit. We saw a Yellow Bellied Marmot and a nice bird's nest in the forest. You will soon reach Bechler Falls. It is more a large rapid than an actual fall but the hike in is well worth the effort. It probably drops about 15 feet. You can take the trail all the way to the main park road close to Old Faithful if you want to do a few days of backpacking but most will turn around and head back the way they came making this a 3 mile round trip hike.
