Point to Point
As this trail begins coming off the Hilton Area parking loop, it follows a gentle, wide path west. It doesn't take long for the trail to begin a steeper descent, which continues to pick up as the trail descends into the gorge formed by the Sawmill Branch. This slope peaks with a particularly steep section right at the middle of the trail, before gradually mellowing out into a flatter path near the end.
At the southwest end of the trail, the path closely follows the Sawmill Branch stream bed until it eventually passes through a tunnel underneath a railroad. This tunnel provides access to the Grist Mill Trail, for this trail as well as the Sawmill Branch Trail and the Buzzards Rock Trail. Due to its proximity to a stream, this connection is not to be used in times of elevated water levels and certainly not during flood warnings. The tunnel and trail on either side will become unusable in these scenarios.
This trail is marked with light blue blazes.
