There is limited parking available at the end of NF-430. The route up is narrow but should be manageable in most cars once the snow melts out.

Description
Bachelor Mountain is a moderate hike offering frequent and expansive views of the Cascades and their foothills. One might not expect to find such views in an area that is so accessible. A pleasant trail climbs fairly gradually through Douglas and noble firs to an open, steep hillside affording panoramic views to the southeast with Mount Jefferson a mere 11 miles to the east. The trailhead lies unmarked at the end of a forest road in the shadow of nearby Coffin Mountain and its actively staffed lookout (viewable from the trailhead). Given the drive up, it may be worth combining these two hikes; they are very similar in terms of distance and elevation gain. As the trail climbs beyond the saddle of the unnamed peak to the southwest, enjoy views of the Cascades peaks from Three Fingered Jack to Broken Top (on a clear day). The trail levels out through an old burn spotted with meadows of beargrass and flowers. From here your final destination is viewable as the trail quickly re-enters the forest and climbs sharply after a signed junction. The views open up again as a few switchbacks take you to the summit. Remnants of a fire lookout, destroyed in 1967, can be seen here. Weather permitting, enjoy the panoramic views now including Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mount Hood and the adjacent Mount Jefferson. Explore the summit area before returning down the trail, with Coffin Mountain now viewable, back to your vehicle.
