Description
Sedona is an area rich in spectacular hikes for a variety of abilities and interests. The Fay Canyon Trail is a great choice for those looking for a fairly short and easy hike with a bit of adventure and very nice views. It is also pretty close to town and can be combined with other great hikes in the same area such as Doe Mountain, Boynton Canyon, and Devilas Bridge. The trailhead is across the road from the large parking area (with restrooms). Most of the trail follows the bottom of the canyon with a gradual grade and mostly sandy trail surface. The views of the red rock canyon on both sides are very nice, and the trail is not at all difficult. After a bit over a mile, the maintained trail ends and the fun begins. The rough trail climbs up the east face of the canyon and teeters precariously on slickrock ledges. The views back down the canyon are pretty spectacular. This route gets rougher the higher it goes and can be followed as far as desired.
