Starting from either the parking lot or the Adirondak Loj, find the Indian Pass Trail as it parallels the eastern shore of Heart Lake. Upon reaching the junction with the Short Trail, head right to make your way toward Mount Jo. I suggest taking the well-indicated Short Trail on the way up for a nice little workout on a steep, rocky trail. Upon reaching the hillside junction with the Long Trail, head right to remain on the Short Trail and reach the summit views. Once you've made it, revel in the views up top before taking the easier return route down the Long Trail.
