There and Back
Ensign Peak is the place where Brigham Young and other leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints surveyed the valley upon arriving. It is a quick great hike that will reward you with amazing views of the area. The Ensign Peak trailhead is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood; you will most likely park right next to houses. The trail begins with information on several exhibits about the peak itself, Native Americans, Pioneers, Explorers and more. The trail goes on the right side of all the exhibits and you will quickly come to a fork in the path. The left path leads to Vista Mound. Continue straight to reach Ensign Peak. This trail is easy to see and easy to follow. You will wind around on the hillside for a while and you will see several resting areas where there are cement blocks available for you to sit down on. If you take it slow and steady this trail should be a breeze. You will come to a great overlook of the airport and Magna areas. From here, the trail turns south and comes to Ensign Peak. You will know you are at Ensign Peak when you reach the large plaque and see the amazing views of the entire valley. You can see the University of Utah, Cottonwood Heights, the Point of the Mountain and more on clear days. Return the same way you came up.
