Alice Eastwood Camp Trail

This trail starts at the 3-way junction where the Alice Eastwood Road and the Sierra Trail meet at the Alice Eastwood Group Campsite. The Alice Eastwood Camp Trail departs to the south before immediately turning west and heading downhill. Relatively level sections are interspersed with steep turns. Dense redwood forest with mossy, lush vegetation predominate here. At the next to the last switchback, the Plevin Cut Trail branches off for a steeper, more direct route back to the camp. Soon, the Alice Eastwood Camp Trail intersects with the Bootjack Trail and ends inside Muir Woods National Monument at the Redwood Creek Trail. Historical note: This trail was named after Alice Eastwood a botanist and conservationist who lived from 1859-1953. She collected many important plant species on expeditions, published widely and saved important plant collections from the burning Academy of Sciences during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
