Description
Some would claim that the Idaho Centennial Trail is longer but they would be wrong as it is actually a collection of many smaller trails. This is not a set of trails or a system of smaller trails. This monster is 87.2 miles of hard pack road mix over old RR bed running from Tamarack, ID to Weiser, ID with small sections of paved trail in Council, Cambridge and Weaser. This trail boasts two commercialized Hot Springs for your enjoyment along the way. An almost imperceptible grade gently aids your progress and when combined with a tailwind makes the hike almost too easy. There is an ongoing weed management program on this trail but it is Idaho after all. There are a lot of well-placed bathrooms and water sources but be prepared for anything. Deer are commonly seen, but you may also see chukars, quail, ducks, geese, eagles, wild turkeys, blue herons, coyotes, bears, wolves, elk and mountain lions. Rainbow trout can be found in the Weiser River, too. This trail is a great trail for family or group hikes as it has so many access points and photo opportunities. Keep in mind that most of the trail is bordered by private property and parts of the trail are still used by ranchers to access fields. Happy trails. If you want to start even further up, use the West Pine Recreational Trail. Just do not park there.
