Conashaugh View Trail

For those who do not wish to complete the entire Conashaugh View Trail, the trail can be shortened into two sections, dubbed locally as Conashaugh "north" and "south," by utilizing the Conashaugh View Trail Cutoff. With the cutoff, the southern loop is about 7 miles round-trip, while the more complete northern route is roughly 10 miles. The trail description below details the entire 9 mile trail as mapped. Starting at the Conashaugh View Trail West Parking Area, follow the trail east into open woodlands. Continue along, eventually passing the Conashaugh View Trail Cutoff to your left. Pass the cuttoff, following the trail to an intersection with Conashaugh Road. Hike alongside the road for about a mile before the trail veers back into the woods. Travel on the smooth, dirt surface as it contours the hillside before plunging steeply into a ravine. Switchbacking your way down the trail, be prepared to cross Dry Brook. After crossing the brook, ascend the north side of the ravine, enjoying gentler trail grades atop the ravine before passing the cutoff trail on your left and continuing down the sharply descending trail into yet another ravine. Much to the hiker's approval, this ravine is the last one along the trail. Ascend the ravine's northern side alongside Zimmerman Road through hemlock and hardwoods to a high plateau. Continue ascending to a T-junction where the trail makes a loop. Take the trail either direction, as inevitably you'll return to this spot. After completing the loop, the easiest way to return to the parking area is to back track along the trail to the junction with the Conashaugh View Trail Cutoff, make a right on the cutoff, then another right onto the Conashaugh View Trail heading north.
