This 22.5-mile route begins and ends at the Jenny Lake Trailhead.
From the trailhead, follow the Jenny Lake Trail south and west for 1.1 miles to the Jenny Lake Horse Trail junction - bear right at the junction. Continue on until reaching the Cascade Canyon Trail junction at 2.2 miles. Turn right and follow the route past the boat dock on the right. At 2.6 miles, turn left on the Horse Trail to String Lake, and then turn right onto Cascade Canyon Trail at 3.2 miles. Ascend Cascade Canyon, climbing 1,100 vertical feet to the forks of Cascade Canyon at mile 6.6. Turn right onto the North Fork Cascade Canyon Trail and climb 1,300 vertical feet to Lake Solitude at mile 9.1. Turn right at the lake to ascend the steep, rocky switchbacks of the Paintbrush Divide Trail. Climb 1,600 vertical feet to reach the Paintbrush Divide at mile 11.3.
From the divide, descend steep, often snow-covered switchbacks into Paintbrush Canyon. At 12.7 miles, reach the junction with Holly Lake Trail and keep right. Upon reaching the String Lake Loop intersection at 17.9 miles, continue straight to follow the String Lake Trail south to the Jenny Lake Trail. Turn left at 19.2 miles and follow the eastern shore of Jenny Lake back to the trailhead.
