North Elk Creek Trail #764

The upper trail splits off the Cub Creek Trail #40 at just over 10,000 feet and descends through some rock gardens and forest. There are a few rock features that can be tricky when climbing this trail, and fun when coming down! Also, lots of rocks and roots to keep your hike interesting! Keep an eye out when climbing, and make note for the descent. The trail takes you back to the Bugling Elk Trail/Elk Falls Pond Loop inside of Staunton State Park. In reverse (south to north), it starts out as a mild to moderate incline for about the first two miles then the incline increases for the remaining 2.5 miles or so until it meets up with the Cub Creek Trail. You'll pass the turn off to your right for Rusty Buckle #769 at around mile 1.3. At one point you pass an old, old truck just sitting there off the right side of the trail; and who knows how long it has been there or how it came to be there in the first place!
